Raised garden or vegetable beds as the name suggests is growing plants in soil above ground level commonly with an enclosure or frame, with or without a base. Raised garden beds can be an easy DIY project or bought as easy to assemble kits. There are many benefits of a having a raised garden or vegetable bed. It keeps your garden looking neat, reduces weeds, allows more control over the condition of the soil and reduces strain on your back.
A wicking bed is a type of raised garden bed so includes all the same benefits as a traditional raised bed but with more advantages. Wicking beds are a self watering garden and use signifcantly less water than raised garden beds due to the water reservoir. Having a reservoir of water avoids the issue of overwatering, underwatering and water evaporation which can be a problem with a traditional raised garden or vegetable bed. Plants in a wicking bed require watering less often. Raised garden beds still require manual watering reqularly, wicking beds can be watered every few weeks or monthly depending on the size of the water reservoir.
