The Foodcube difference

In traditional wicking beds the roots, soil and scoria can become mixed over time and the wicking bed will require emptying and the layering process needs to be done again. Emptying an old wicking bed can be a back breaking process.

The Foodcube is an all-in-one system and only requires soil and water. Therefore, if the soil becomes root bound or needs refreshing, the Foodcube can simply be emptied of soil and fresh soil added if needed.

Most wicking beds are permanent once built but the Foodcube is be relocatable. It can be moved by forklift when full due to fork lift access underneath. Alternatively, you can empty the soil out, move the Foodcube and fill it up again.

Each Foodcube has two swivelling water levels that gives you ultimate control over the water level in each unit or an entire row. Set high for a full soak to cope with a heat wave, create an air gap for better drainage or fully empty. You get full control.

The built-in passive aeration system unique to Foodcube, provides two air-posts in diagonal corners of each unit to allow oxygen to exchange to the roots below the removable tray to minimise root rot and let trapped hot air escape to prevent overheating.

A unique feature is the modular design, meaning they can be linked together easily creating larger urban farms. The Foodcube is built to last with UV stabilisation added, but can last even longer with optional cladding. It is also manufactured in Melbourne using 80% food grade recycled plastic and can be recycled into new Foodcubes or other plastic products at the end of it’s life.

With multiple configurations, accessories and it’s patented design, the Foodcube is much more versatile and simpler than traditional wicking beds.

Let’s build something together.
